BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A St. Kitts resident bravely fought with a masked gun-toting bandit, who robbed him of his cellular phone, and was able to disarm him and turned in a .38 special revolver to the police.

According to a police release, “At about 12:45 a.m. on Saturday 20th June, Police responded to a report of robbery at Nevis Street. Investigations revealed that Shorn Gordon was robbed of his cell phone by a masked man with a firearm. A struggle ensued and Gordon relieved his assailant of the firearm and turned it over to the police.”

The identity of the assailant was revealed to the police and the release informs and he has since been arrested and charged with gun-related and robbery offences.

“The assailant was identified as Shane Eddy of King Street, who was subsequently arrested and charged for robbery and possession of the .38 special revolver and possession of six .38 rounds of ammunition.”

Meanwhile, also on St. Kitts, members of the Anti-Gang Unit were conducting a routine operation on Friday, June 19, during which persons were stopped and searched at Buckleys estate.

The police release informed that during the searches, Lennox Gumbs of St. Johnston Village “ran away from the police…but was later found on the railway track where he was searched”.

Gumbs was reportedly found carrying one .40 calibre pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition. He was arrested and charged with one count of illegal possession of a firearm and one count of illegal possession of ammunition.

The latest finds bring the number of illegal firearms removed from the Federation’s streets for 2009 to 18.

Both men are expected to appear before the court shortly where they are to answer to their charges.
