BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MEMBERS of the Police Force’s Violent Crimes Unit are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting incident in which a teenager was injured, according to a police statement.

The statement said that the incident occurred on Wednesday (Aug. 30) and officers from Division ‘A’ had responded.

“The victim was transported to the hospital and received medical attention, and is currently warded. The general public will be updated when more information is made available,” the statement further said.

SKNVibes understands that the incident occurred some time on Wednesday night in Conaree Village and that the victim, a female teenage, was shot while in her home.

It is being bandied that the girl was shot by a member of a joint patrol that comprised members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force.

However, informed sources told this media house that “only soldiers were on that patrol and for some reason or the other missiles were thrown at them”.

Sources also said that in retaliation, a member of the patrol had discharged a round which accidentally entered the teen’s home and struck her on the left thumb.

When contacted for a comment on the incident, Public Affairs Officer of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, Captain Kayode Sutton indicated that he was not in the Federation at that time and categorically stated that “the police have launched an investigation into the matter and on completion the Defence Force will inform the public on the findings”.
