BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 10, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Following the passage of Hurricane Irma, Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris led from the front when he swung into action late Wednesday morning (September 6) by going out into the communities to not only assess the damages left behind by the hurricane, but also in assisting emergency crews at work.

The Federation was still gripped by uncertainty as Hurricane Jose was lurking behind Hurricane Irma since it followed an almost identical course, but with the nation getting an ‘all clear’ Prime Minister Harris, who is also the Minister of National Security, once more swung into action.

On Saturday September 9 he led his Cabinet colleagues the Hon Eugene Hamilton, Minister of Agriculture, Health, Human Settlement et al., and the Hon Ian Patches Liburd, the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Post, Urban Development and Transport, in a tour of Constituency  Number Six to assess damages caused by the passage of Hurricane Irma.

Accompanying them included the Cabinet Secretary Mrs Josephine Huggins, and engineers from the National Housing Corporation (NHC) and the Public Works Department, as well as Consultant Mr Warren Thompson and Engineer Mr Kevin Williams.

The team made a walkthrough of Saddlers, Dieppe Bay, Newton Ground, and St. Paul’s where they heard the needs and concerns of the residents. The Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues’ presence went out to assure the residents that Team Unity Administration is about country above party.

The Prime Minister will tomorrow Monday (September 11) be the guest of Ambassador Michael Powell on the popular People’s Voice talk show programme on Sugar City 90.3 FM starting at 9:00 am.

Issues to be discussed will touch on the country’s post hurricane recovery efforts and the independence calendar, which has in one way or the other been compromised by the unwelcome passage of Hurricane Irma.

When Prime Minister Harris made a national post-hurricane address on Friday September 8 he noted that the renaming for the Mental Health Day Treatment Centre originally scheduled for that day had been postponed.

“The Appreciation Service for Sanitation Workers scheduled for Sunday September 10 has been postponed,” added the Prime Minister. “School visits by cabinet Members, which were slated to commence on Monday, September 11, are now cancelled. However, students can still look forward to the annual Schools’ Patriotic Programme and Treat, as that event will take place as planned on Monday, September 18.”

Citizens and residents are encouraged to tune in to Ambassador Michael Powell’s People’s Show on Sugar City on Monday September 11 from 9:00 am to hear Prime Minister address all the important issues relating to the country’s post hurricane recovery efforts and the country’s 34th independence anniversary calendar.

Of note, he advised:  “The Annual National Heroes Day ceremony will go ahead as planned at our historic National Heroes Park on Saturday, September 16,” and further added: “The Independence Day Parade at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium and the ensuing Toast at Camp Springfield, which are slated for Tuesday, September 19, will be executed as originally planned.”
