Weekend Vibes...Should women be treated differently before a court of law?

Angie
By: Nevis Bureau, SKNVibes
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – IN this edition of Weekend Vibes, we asked Nevisians if they believe women should be treated differently to men in a court of law.

Angie - Women get off better than men. The judge will look at the man in a different way, knowing that crime committed by anyone is wrong, yet still women are luckier.

Shimon – No! I don’t think women are treated differently. It all depends on the situation though. If a woman has a three-month-old baby and a man has no kids and both of them are caught for stealing, the magistrate may quicker fine the women and jail the man for the offense.

Full Breed – Yes! Women are treated differently. No matter where in the world you go woman always get through better.

Net – Yes! Men get harder treatment than women. Women are scarcely seen before the court. On the other hand, you find a man in court on numerous occasions for breaking the law. Therefore the magistrate or judge gets fed up of seeing them, so she or he tries to teach them a lesson and make them understand how serious the offense is.

Sharlo – The woman always get off easier. Most of the time the law is on the woman’s side.; if a woman rapes a man people will laugh but if a man rapes a woman they will send him straight to St. Kitts.
