KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – FROM among a field of 15 contestants, Raeon ‘Maddzart’ Primus emerged victorious and was crowned St. Vincent’s 2009 Ragga Soca Monarch at Victoria Park on the night of Friday, June 26.
According to a release out of St. Vincent, Primus, who is the leader of the Madd Symphony Band, ascended the throne after it was left vacant by last year’s winner Dani O, who decided not to defend her title.
The release further stated that Primus performed his catchy hit ‘Is Me Friend’, which did enough to help him stay ahead of Danielle Veira singing ‘Ah Want Me Soca’ and Shernell ‘Skarpyon’ Williams with ‘Soca Love’, in that order.
The other artistes in the Raga Soca Finals were Troots and Ice, Tabia, Full Clip, Squitty, Zolah,Tamisha Nichols, Radikal, G Wise and Oscar, Elegance, Lady D and D Landlord.
