Novelist Anna Levi to lead free sessions on Memoir at The UWI Open Campus in St. Kitts
November 24th, 2017 -- Novelist Anna Levi will offer a free workshop on memoir at The University of the West Indies Open Campus in St. Kitts. Under the theme, “A Life to Write, A Story to Tell” Ms. Levi’s workshop will include theoretical information on memoir, writing exercises and time to draft memoir vignettes, review of drafts in workshop format, and an Open Mic public event to showcase the writing of workshop participants. Writers of all experience levels and working in all genres—including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, slam, as well as music, video, and visual arts--are welcome.
The workshop will run Monday December 11 and Wednesday December 13, from 5-8 pm, with the Open Mic event on Thursday December 14 from 7-9 pm. All sessions will be held at The UWI Open Campus, located at The Gardens in Basseterre. Registration is free but space is limited. Anna Levi is the Trinidadian-Grenadian author of the novel, Madinah Girl (Karnak House, 2015), and the forthcoming novel Nowhereians. The social contexts for her writing include marginal refugees, sex workers, human trafficking, religious practices, cultural traditions including vernacular speech, and assorted survival strategies in the peri-urban villages along the Eastern Main Road in Trinidad. Madinah Girl received a special mention at the 2016 Bocas Literature Festival, and Ms. Levi is finishing a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at The UWI St. Augustine in Trinidad.
