BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, December 1, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- In very animated and heated second semi-finals of a best of three, defending champion Unity and top title contender and former champion Lodge squeezed their way into the finals of the 22nd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition.

This supercharged action played out on Thursday evening November 30 at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux. In one of the two semi-finals Beers Domino Club who were facing Lodge had at one time lost hope as Lodge was leading them 8-0.

The early lead by Lodge did not deflate Beers’ players as their cool-tempered Captain Bernard Wilson urged them on and they immediately surged ahead by winning two games before Lodge went one up to make it 9-2 in favour of Lodge.

Two Beers’ players Valencia Alexander and Kelvon Arthurton were exceptional and contributed to the forward movement of their team which saw them reduce the deficit and were at one time trailing 7-10 and only needed three more points to level it out with Lodge, and another three to win the game.

Sensing trouble, Lodge team upped their game especially after they would have allowed Beers the luxury of coming close to their score-line. They ensured that the last point Beers got was seven and putting a roadblock to their opponents’ progress, won point after point and at exactly 10:29 pm they rose in jubilation after hitting Beers 13-7.

Defending champion Unity did not have an early smooth sailing like their counterparts Lodge. Saddlers, the only team from Constituency Number Six to reach the last-four stage was determined to force the semi-final into a third game having lost the first one to Unity.

In this second meeting they had scored an early point as Unity was leading 3-1. They however fell behind as Unity at one time led them 8-1, before they quickly changed gears and Unity’s lead was 9-2. Saddlers through the urging of their captain Stephen Gilbert exerted pressure by his changing tables and they ended up reducing the deficit to give Unity a narrow lead of 11-9.

But when things got tough and Captain Edmund ‘Fergie’ Rawlins of Unity took to the tables and started pushing the dices at speeds that mesmerised Saddlers’ players, they soon hit a double winner, and jumped from 11-9 to 13-9 at 10:44 pm leaving the boys from Number Six wondering what hit them.

Defending champion Unity and top title contender (having finished at the top in the round-robin stage of the competition) and former champion Lodge will meet on Tuesday December 5 at the same venue for the finals which will be determined by the best of three games.

The second game will be played on Thursday December 7 at the same venue, and whatever team that will have won two straight games will be declared winner of the 22nd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition, which is sponsored by Area Parliamentary Representative and Prime of the Federation Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

Going by the results from the round robin stage, Lodge has an advantage over defending champions Unity having beaten them twice. There are therefore chances that Lodge could repeat the feat in the finals, but Unity Captain Edmund ‘Fergie’ Rawlins has said that unless they are out, nobody should rule them out.
