Local elections, ceremony in Nevis end without major incident

By: (RSCNPF), Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 21, 2017, (RSCNPF): There were no reported election-related incidents during the local island elections in Nevis on December 18, 2017. There were also no major incidents reported during the ceremony at which the new Premier of Nevis took the Oath of Office on December 19.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 6 p.m. The ballots were then transported to the various counting locations and the final results were announced sometime after 2 a.m. Thousands turned out at the various polling stations to cast their vote and complied with the electoral rules and regulations. The ceremony took place at a special sitting of the High Court in Charlestown.

The High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force would like to thank the electorate for being responsible and ensuring that Monday's and Tuesday's exercises remained peaceful.

"Monday and Tuesday were testament to our society's respect for democracy and the right of citizens and residents who qualify to exercise their franchise. We were happy to assist in further ensuring person's safety and protecting that fundamental right," said Commissioner Queeley.
