    Charlestown Nevis (November 7, 2005)
-- At a time when most people are looking forward to the festive Christmas season, residents of Charlestown were Sunday afternoon treated to a choral presentation "Celebrate Jesus" by members of the Jerusalem Children's Choir at the Charlestown Methodist Church in what many saw as a prelude to the Christmas season.

Led by Choir Director, Mrs Jennifer Hodge, who is also the Principal Education Officer in the Nevis Island Administration, the 39 immaculately adorned girls and boys in an hour-long programme presented songs that were well received, starting with "Swing low, Sweet Chariot", appropriately ending with "Happy Day Express" that saw them "shoo shoo" inside the church building.

A member of the musically acclaimed Sutton Family, who are known Seventh Day Adventists, Mr Michael Sutton, was the Pianist. He was profusely thanked by the Choir Director for having agreed to work with the children even on Saturday afternoons. Devotions were led by vicar, the Rev Moreland Williams.
The children's choir was founded in 1991 by Methodist Church lay preacher, Ms Lyndis Walters, who also attended the function and expressed her satisfaction that the children were doing well. Mrs Hodge who took over as the choir director in 2002 explained that the choir usually makes the presentation in mid year, but due to unavoidable circumstances, this year it was held close to Christmas.

Coordinator of the programme, Ms Lyra Richards, while thanking parents for allowing their children to attend practice sessions, remarked that there was need to have formal voice training sessions for the talented children "to avoid them falling through the cracks" once they are no longer on the choir.
A parent of one of the children, Mrs Sonita Daniel, Senior Librarian at the Medical University of the Americas at Potworks in St. James Parish, presented a potted plant (to symbolise a healthy and prosperous life) to the choir director, through her son, Master Omari Daniel.
