    (CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS- Friday, 10 July 2009) The annual general meeting of the Lyn Jeffers School and shareholders vote overwhelmingly in favour of keeping the school open by becoming a publicly assisted private school.

     

    The Lyn Jeffers School on Nevis is a non profit corporation that operates a primary and secondary school with 61 students. The shareholders of the school are the parents and teachers attending the school. These shareholders met on Tuesday, 7th July and voted in favour of becoming a Publicly Assisted Private School. A new Board of Management was elected with John Yearwood as Chairperson, Angela Cozier as Secretary and Deepak Ramchandani as Treasurer.

     

    In accordance with the Educational Act of 2005, the Minister of Education, The Hon Joseph Parry will appoint a representative to the Board. “We are delighted that the Lyn Jeffers School has agreed to join us as a Publicly Assisted Private School” says Joseph Wiltshire, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. “We look forward to our partnership with them as Charlestown Primary and Charlestown Secondary are very full and we welcome another good School in Charlestown.”

     

    The new Board have lowered the tuition fee to EC$1950 per term. “The Parents are so very grateful to Premier Parry for stepping in to help save the school. In response, we have already received applications from 20 new parents” reported John Yearwood, the new chairman of the Board. “Prospective parents are strongly advised to register their children immediately to avoid disappointment as class sizes are limited to a maximum of 12 students per class.”

     

    The Lyn Jeffers School follows the Education Departments standard curriculum with CXC at the Secondary level. Past graduates are presently attending prestigious colleges including the Ivy League schools in the USA and Oxford University in the UK.

     

    Applications for enrolment for the September 2009 term may be obtained by calling the Lyn Jeffers School at 469 7909 for an appointment. To assist with these registrations, the School office will remain open over the Summer from 9.00am to 1.00pm, Monday to Friday.
