A new club, which hopes to build a brighter future for the youths in particular and the Upper Cayon and surrounding community in general, through innovation, dedication, teamwork and inspiration, has been formed.
Radicals Sports and Empowerment Club will be officially launched during a ceremony at The Circus, Upper Cayon on Saturday night, Assistant Public Relations Officer, Shanna Herbert said Wednesday.

"From inspiration comes hope, from hope comes a myriad of possibilities and from a myriad of possibilities come success," said Herbert, who pointed out that "when a community makes strides as one people, miraculous things happen which can result in caring neighbours, more educated children, loving parents and an emergence of role models that the youths can emulate."

Ms. Herbert said that the Radicals Sports and Empowerment Club is committed to make the Upper Cayon community "one that we can be proud of."

"Our objectives are to improve the mental and physical strengths of the Cayon youths, improve the physical structure and esthetics of our community by initiating clean ups and beautification projects and implementing educational programmes for youths and adults," said Herbert.

She added that the new youth group also hopes to eradicate the stigma wrongfully labeled to the community by ensuring that that there is equal opportunity for all and take pro-active steps to remove the barriers that deter residents from participating in community and social activities.

"In particular, the programmes and activities we will pursue must be positive in combating the existing social exclusion as this is the result when the opportunities available are limited due to a combination of factors such as low income, poor housing, limited recreational facilities, unemployment, crime, poor health habits and a breakdown of family values," said Herbert.

The Radical Sports and Empowerment Club Assistant Public Relations Officer disclosed that the Executive of the new organisation has scheduled a meeting with parents of the Upper Cayon Community at the Cayon Primary School on November 23rd at 7:30 P.M.

The Executive comprises Geraldo Herbert, President; Duane Mc Sheen, Vice President; Secretary, Sherilyn Gaskin; Assistant Secretary, Cindelle De Costa; Treasurer, Kaznee Williams; Assistant Treasurer, Donally Caesar-Liburd; Public Relations Officer, Dr. Randy Liburd and Assistant Public Relations Officer, Shanna Herbert.
