Basseterre, St. Kitts (November 14, 2005): The SSMC Transition Management Office (TMO) will employ the business labs techniques to help prepare former sugar workers to be successful in agro-business.
The TMO's Human Relations Officer Reginald George is in Grenada for the November 14 to 18 workshop on the Organization and Management of Agro-Business Workshop. The workshop is a part of the Young Americas Business Trust - OAS Business Labs programme, which is now offering training in specific fields.

Senior Youth Officer in the Ministry of Education, Youth, Community and Social Development and Gender Affairs Dave Connor and his business lab partner Joshua Mike, a peace corps volunteer, nominated George to attend this conference.

Connor noted that George's role in the retraining of former sugar workers makes him an excellent candidate to participate in this important five-day workshop.

"It is hoped that he will be able to utilize this training and (upon his return) collaborate with the business labs committee in offering training to ex-sugar workers," Connor explained. He added that the thrust to further develop agri-tourism in St. Kitts and Nevis makes this a timely venture.

Business Labs is an integral hands-on training programme that teaches the basics of business education and entrepreneurial skills to young people in a practical setting. Persons throughout the region are attending the November 14 to 18 workshop.
