    Charlestown Nevis (November 16, 2005) The first of two Basic Education Projects in Nevis is currently being executed at the Charlestown Secondary School is due to start early December to the satisfaction of the Minister of Infrastructural Development, Mr. A Michael Perkins.
    Minister Perkins and his Permanent Secretary, Mr. Ernie Stapleton accompanied by the School Principal, Mr. Edson Elliott and two staff of Jiangsu International paid a visit Tuesday to the Sixth Form College of the Charlestown Secondary School.
     
    The Minister told the Government Information Service that the visit to the school was in order to inspect the school. "Jiangsu International has begun to mobilise for start of construction for this long awaited basic education project."
     
    Jiangsu International, a BVI-based Chinese firm, was awarded the contract of the Basic Education Project which is a Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) funded project.
     
    According to Minister Perkins, the project has two components of which one would see a major extension and expansion of the Charlestown Secondary School that would include a number of classrooms and about four science labs.  "The other component of the project would be the construction of the new primary school for the St. Johns community."
