SCASPA urge vigilance as Tropical Waves leave Africa

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Sept. 07.2018 – AS two Tropical Waves move off the coast of Africa, the St. Kitts Met office is closely monitoring their progress as they are expected to move in the general direction of the Caribbean.

The Waves are expected to develop over the coming days as they make their way across the Atlantic Ocean.

In a weather update for St. Kitts and Nevis, officials at the Met Office pointed out that they will “provide additional updates as they (Tropical Waves) continue to move towards the island chain”. To this end, they are advising residents to be vigilant and pay close attention to further updates.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in its afternoon report issued advisories on Tropical Cyclone Eight, located over the far eastern Atlantic, which it stated has formation chance in high or near 100 percent over the next 48 hours and a similar rate over the next five days.

Further, it pointed out that satellite data indicates that the circulation of a low-pressure system located about 700 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands is well defined.

However, forecasters suggest that associated shower and thunderstorm activity has not been sufficiently organized to designate the
    system as a tropical depression.

“Only a slight increase in organization would lead to the initiation of advisories on this system, possibly as early as later today or tonight.  This low is expected to move slowly westward across the tropical Atlantic Ocean during the next several days.

This Wave has 90 percent chance of development over the next 48 hours to five days.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Florence was downgraded, but forecasters are expecting it to return to a hurricane within the coming days.

That storm is expected to pass close to the United States, and not impact St. kitts and Nevis.
