    MGP workshop
Basseterre, St. Kitts (November 17, 2005):
Training for the PANCAP/CARICOM Youth Ambassador administered Mini-Grants Programme will be completed this week during a five-day workshop.
Approximately 20 young persons from various youth groups are undergoing sessions on HIV/AIDS sensitization and project development writing.

Officials from CARICOM, UNICEF and PANCAP are in St. Kitts to aid the process. "They are really here in a supportive role," CYA Pierre Liburd told SKNIS. "At the first workshop in August, the overseas officials were facilitating the sessions. This time around we have local persons facilitating."

Jolanie Johnson and Terry Morris are the main instructors. To prepare for this role they participated in the St. Vincent leg of the mini-grants training. Other local resource personnel are also assisting.

Liburd indicated that the sessions are going well and described them as very interesting and lively.

Tuesday and Wednesday training featured four-hour evening classes. The more intense aspect of the work begins today. As such classes will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The sessions are being held at the Newtown community center.

After the training process, group members will return to their respective clubs and develop projects to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS within the community.

The projects will be submitted to the technical working group (TWG: the local body implementing the mini-grants). The TWG will review the projects and forward the most impactful to CARICOM where they will be eligible to receive funding of up to US $5000.00. The mini-grants project makes a total of US $10,000.00 available for local projects.
