    CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (November 17, 2005) --
A Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) official confirmed on Thursday that Nevisians can expect to see mobilisation activities regarding the construction of the three schools in the Basic Education Project in early December and full scale construction in early January 2006.
Mr Glen Mc Carvell, Operations Officer of the CDB's Project Supervision Division based in Barbados, made the disclosure on Thursday during a one-day visit to Nevis.

The status on all three schools is that the contracts with the contractors have been signed for their construction.  There are just a few formalities with regards to insurances and other things that the contractors are currently facilitating and we would expect that those things would be in place over the next week or so.

"Perhaps by the beginning of December we could see construction on these sites could start. At least there would be some mobilisation activities we would hope before Christmas and full scale construction activities would be expected in the New Year," the Operations Officer said.

He said the schools would take approximately 12 months to construct so things seem to be on track towards completion and was hopeful that the schools would be occupied by this time next year.

The CDB official explained that his visit to Nevis was to review the progress that the Nevis Island Administration was making towards implementing its component towards Basic Education Project - the expansion of the Charlestown Secondary School and the construction of a new school at St. Johns and the construction of the new Special Education Unit and mainly to look at the new site for the Special Education Unit.

According to Mr McCarvell, he found that the site at Prospect was suitable. "Based on my visit I found that it was a very suitable site and all parties appear to be pleased with the new location. It would seem to be a better location in terms of integrating the Special Education Unit with the adjacent community infrastructure," he said.
