41st Anniversary of Social Security

By: Social Security, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: Friday 1st February 2019 – February 1st, 2019 marks the 41st anniversary date of the St Christopher and Nevis Social Security fund which was inaugurated in 1978 to offer more meaningful income protection benefits to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. Since its inception, the Fund has steadily progressed to become a major source of economic stability both for insured persons and for the nation as a whole.

The fund which stands with reserves totalling over 1 billion dollars has made significant contributions to a wide section of society including education and housing to community development support, from sports to health and more recently to national security.

Over the years, the people of the Federation have had discussions about the sustainability of the Fund. They have registered their suggestions for the necessary reform which will ensure that the Fund remains sustainable for future generations. The implementation of such reforms is imminent and will signify the appropriate response to the coming of age of Social Security.

To commemorate this anniversary the Board, Management and Staff will participate in Thanksgiving services on both islands. The first service will be held at the Resurrection and Life Church, Lower Fiennes Avenue on Sunday February 17th at 9 am on St. Kitts and at St Pauls Anglican Church on Nevis. The date for that service will be announced in a subsequent notice.

The Board wishes to thank to the people of the Federation for the success that the fund has achieved to date, and extends an invitation to
the public to join us in worship as we give God thanks for His grace and providence to our Institution over the years.
