BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (November 22, 2005): Citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis will have an opportunity to learn more about legislator and historian Mr. Edgar Challenger in an exhibition to be hosted at the International House Museum.

The occasion is the commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Mr. Edgar Challenger on Tuesday November 29. The International House Museum/Edgar Challenger Library will celebrate the day with an exhibition of highlights of the life and work of Mr. Challenger, a man who was actively involved in the historical, social and economical development of St. Kitts.

Mr. Challenger was the founder of the Trades and Labour Union, an avid archaeologist and anthropologist, served as a president of the Mutual Improvement Society, a member of Benevolent Society and the Workers League, a noted historian and a member of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Legislative Council. An added feature of the day would be a special highlight of the works on the late Mr. Basil Henderson, who was an avid sportsman, a community oriented person who started Carnival in 1957, and who was the architect and organizer of the 4-H Movement in St. Kitts.

According to the Curator at the International House Museum, Mr. Winston "Zack" Nisbett, a special ceremony would take place at 5:00 p.m. to mark the occasion. Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and keynote speaker Sir Probyn Innis would address the occasion. Additionally, Mr. Walford Gumbs of the Trades and Labour Union, Mr. Jonathan Johannes, Manager of First Caribbean International Bank and Mr. Al Barker would also address the gathering. Several schools have already indicated intentions to visit for guided tours of the facility throughout the day. Educator Mr. Washington Archibald would make presentations to the visiting students.

Mr. Nisbett indicated that a variety of traditional local foods and drinks would be on sale to the visiting public. Another feature of the day would be the Edgar Challenger Open Draught Tournament. A Nevisian stringband, led by noted musician "Santoy," would entertain the audience.
