BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN the wake of the stabbing incident following a game at Warner Park on Saturday (Apr. 20) that had left Raheem Francis hospitalised, management of Sol Island Auto Conaree Football Club condemned the action of one of their players involved in the incident and categorically stated that his action did not represent the values of the club and the community.

Following the Premier League Match between RAMS Village Superstars and SOL Island Auto Conaree on Saturday evening (Apr. 20), in which the latter club was defeated 2-1, an incident occurred which resulted in Francis being stabbed and was hospitalised in a critical condition.

According to reports, Francis, who plays for Village was allegedly stabbed by Glenroy Samuel of the opposing club. He was formally charged for the offence on Wednesday (Apr. 24).

A press release from the Sol Island Auto Conaree Football Club stated that its management and players deeply regret the incident and “strongly condemn any form of violence whether on or off the field of play and would like to assure everyone that this incident does not represent our values as a club and community”.

It also stated that a town hall meeting was held on Friday (Apr. 26) in an effort to provide some reassurance to the community.

In attendance at the meeting were: the club’s sponsors SOL (Avery Mascoll) and IAS (Sylvester Williams); guest speakers Rev. Spencer Watts and Dr. Patrick Martin; the club’s Management and Executive Team; players; and supporters of the Conaree community.

Notably, the sponsors had pledged their continued support to the club, while Rev. Watts and Dr. Martin uplifted the community with their words of encouragement.

“Members of the community and supporters such as Pastor Desmond Hobson-Tyson, Dr. Drew, Errol O'Loughlin, Irandy Byron and others expressed concern for Raheem's well-being and shared ideas for the way forward.

“One of the greater highlights of the night was Dr. Martin commending our Physiotherapist, Mavis Lewis, for jumping into action on the night of the incident and administering emergency first response aid,” the release read.

The meeting concluded with a prayer session, in which all present prayed for Francis ‘full recovery, for the Village Football Club and also the entire Village community.

“We also prayed for Glenroy Samuel, the Conaree Football Club and the Conaree Community. Our sincerest thoughts and prayers continue to be with all involved,” the release noted.
