Republic Bank, CPL partnering to help The Bahamas

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Caribbean Premier and Trinidad and Tobago-based Republic Bank are the latest in a long list of entities coming onboard to help the victims of Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas.

According to the organisers, the two bodies would be working to raise funds to support those who have been affected by Hurricane Dorian.

The fundraising support will be done through the ‘6 for 6’ campaign, which means that with every six hit during the 2019 tournament, funds and supplies will be generated to the recovery efforts.

The initiative was launched in the first game of the tournament between Trinbago Knight Riders and the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots.

In that game, each six was worth US$600 and 14 were struck for a total of US$8,400

CPL in a statement said that in game two of the tournament, the Guyana Amazon Warriors took on St. Lucia Zouks and Republic Bank donated US$60 for every six hit.

“Future ‘6 for 6’ campaigns will see each maximum generating other critical supplies in the relief effort including fresh water, medical packs or food packs as Republic Bank and Hero CPL work together to help the rebuilding efforts across the region. These will be announced prior to each match.”

Two islands in The Bahamas - Grand Bahamas and Abaco – were destroyed by the passage of Hurricane Dorian which was a powerful category 5 storm.

Horrifying details emerged from the islands on what transpired during the passage of the hurricane, which pummel the island chain for 40 hours before coming to a virtual standstill.

Media reports said that 43 are confirmed dead and a further 70, 000-plus are homeless.

CPL’s COO Pete Russell said they have been devastated to see the amount of destruction caused by Dorian as it made its way across the region.

“We are delighted that Republic Bank have been so generous in donating funds and supplies. We hope that this goes some way towards easing the burden of those who have been so badly affected by the hurricane,” Russel said.

Meanwhile, Republic Bank’s General Manager, Group Marketing and Communications Michelle Palmer-Keizer said all of the offices of the financial institution are deeply moved by the devastation caused by Dorian.

She also said too that they share wholeheartedly CPL’s commitment to do whatever it takes to support The Bahamas.

"On Wednesday morning, ‘6 for 6’ was a germ of an idea. By Wednesday night - thanks to the collaboration between CPL and Republic Bank and the six-hitting expertise of Kieron Pollard and company - we had raised our first $8,400 to support the Hurricane Dorian relief efforts. I have one message to all CPL players, ‘Hit more sixes and help us help The Bahamas,’” Palmer-Keizer encouraged.
