Trinidad’s sister isle gets set for masquerading and merrymaking

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PLANS are in place for Tobago’s annual festival, which is a mini-Carnival featuring parades of bands, exhibitions and fetes.  The event is set to take place from October 3 to 5.

'Tobago Fest', with its new style 'mas', is a smaller version of Trinidad’s Carnival.  The Tobago mini-Carnival offers masqueraders the opportunity to enjoy the revelry a second time around with a distinctly Tobagonian flavour.

According to a release out of Trinidad and Tobago, popular masquerade bands from Trinidad will travel across to the sister isle to participate in the main event as well as a host of other activities on the agenda.

The Tobago Fest opens with a Festival Queen competition in Roxborough, followed early the next morning at 4:00a.m. by a J'Ouvert parade in the village of Plymouth.

Later, there will be a parade of costumed bands on the streets of Scarborough, the island's capital.

On the following day, a beach bash at Store Bay is planned.  The climax of the festival will include bikini and wet T-shirt competitions.
