Guyana lifts ban against "Gully God" Mavado

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- JAMAICAN dancehall artiste Mavado will now be able to perform for his fans in Guyana.  The country has lifted its ban on the ‘Gully God’, which was enforced a year and a half ago.

According to Presidential Advisor Odingna Lumumba, the country had enacted the ban on David Constantine Brooks aka Mavado for inflammatory lyrics promoting gang violence and anti-gay sentiments.

Jahkno.com reported that Lumumba declined to comment on why the ban was lifted.

Jamaican cultural officials reportedly lobbied Guyana President Bharrat Jagdeo to lift the ban when he visited Jamaica last month.

The ‘So Special’ singer will perform in Guyana on September 18 and 19.
