BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BLOOD donations to 13-year-old Dominic Henry have placed him in a stable medical condition as he continues to recover from the brutal attack launched against him exactly seven days ago.

Last Friday (Sep. 4), Dominic’s family and friends launched a campaign to encourage persons with O-negative type blood to donate to the injured teen, who could have potentially died from drastic blood loss. Dominic’s rare blood type further complicated the situation, as it is the only type his body is capable of accepting.

When news of the young man’s need circulated, a number of individuals sympathetic to the cause donated blood and offered words of encouragement to the victim’s mother, Andrea Henry.

According to Andrea, “As soon as the notice went up, I got a lot of calls from persons telling me that they want to donate blood or that they are praying for us.” She added that the immediate response from the general public shows that people are aware of the situation and the effect crime can have on a family.

Speaking to SKNVibes, the gracious mother of three thanked all who donated blood and those who were willing to, but could not do so because of their blood type. Dominic has been recovering, she said, and has regained his speech and some movement in his limbs.

Andrea stated that at this point there is no need for any more blood donations, and she remains hopeful for her son’s speedy recovery.

She thanked the staff at the Pogson Medical Centre and the JNF General Hospital for ensuring that Dominic received quality care while nursing his wounds.

Last Monday (Aug. 31), the youth was attacked while at home in Lower Bourkes Project, Sandy Point. His attacker, who is suspected to be a minor, allegedly broke into the house and launched a violent attack on Henry with a sharp object.

A gruesome struggle followed resulting in Dominic receiving multiple stab wounds to the back and face and a life threatening slash across his throat. The young man, traumatized by the attack, desperately ran for his life and collapsed outside a neighbour’s residence before he was rushed to the hospital.

Today, Dominic remains warded at the JNF General Hospital as he continues to recover.
