BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – An individual has been taken into police custody following a robbery attempt that took place just outside of Pizza Place over the weekend.
Information reaching SKNVibes on Friday evening (Sept. 4) indicated that the proprietor of the business was robbed at gun point. In an attempt to substantiate the report, numerous calls were placed to Press and Public Relations Officer to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Inspector Cromwell Henry.
His initial response was that he was otherwise occupied at the time of the call. Subsequent attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
This morning, SKNVibes was successful in reaching Inspector Henry and he divulged the details of the incident.
“It happened on Friday night after 11:00 p.m. As the proprietor and staff were closing, an armed man approached them, pointed a gun at them and demanded money.”
He further explained that they told the robber they did not have any money, which resulted in him fleeing the scene “without incident”.
Hours later a suspect was taken into custody and is currently assisting with investigations into the incident.
When asked about the likelihood that this person would be charged in relation to the incident, Henry noted, “I can’t say if it is likely that this person would be charged. He is assisting with investigations and the appropriate charges, if any, would be brought against the person based on the outcome of the investigations.”
Henry was also asked if any firearm was retrieved in connection with the attempted robbery, but he indicated that he could not “comment on any evidence that has been gathered.”
Investigations into the attempted robbery continue.
