BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Two Verchilds residents were hospitalised following a shooting incident that took place at their home yesterday (Sept. 9).
According to the Press and Public Relations Officer of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Inspector Cromwell Henry, the victims are Gregory Flemming and his girlfriend, Karen Nichols.
He explained that sometime around 3:00 yesterday morning, police responded to a report of a shooting in the Verchilds area. Upon investigation, officers discovered that both victims were in their home when “an individual set fire to the house”.
Flemming reportedly ran from the inside of the house to the outside, at which time he was shot in the hand and abdomen. Nichols, who had remained inside of the home, was also shot in the arm during the attack.
The PRO stated that Flemming was able to extinguish the fire, which was lit on the inside of the house through an open window, before he ran to the outside of the building.
One suspect has been taken into police custody and is said to be “assisting with investigations”.
The police are asking bearers of information relative to this incident to contact the nearest police station. Investigations are ongoing.
