Press Release
St. George's Grenada, September 10th, 2009: It is with concern that the New National Party (NNP) expresses its dissatisfaction with the level of interest shown by the Police Force in maintaining good community security during the series of public meetings being held around the country by the NNP.  The meetings which started on August 18th and have been continuing every Tuesday and Thursday since then, have not seen the presence of one (1) uniformed police officer.  The police were informed of the meetings as letters were sent to the attention of the Commissioner of Police on August 13th requesting that police presence be made available.  Follow-up correspondence was also sent by the Chairman of the party on August 26th – these requests have obviously been ignored.

During the tenure of the NNP, police protection was available for all public meetings regardless of party affiliation.  The police should be more proactive in their service to the people, especially in light of their recent focus on the development of community security.  They should also try not to let politics affect their ability to do a thorough job.  The NNP calls on the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police to look into this matter and do what they know is right to provide leadership in maintaining law and order in our country.
