BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- It was supposed to be an 8 o’clock event.  However, the first ever Saddle Fiesta Dancehall Queen Competition started at 10 o’clock because of the general tardiness of the audience.  Nevertheless, the five contestants got to show off their impressive dancing skills in front of a huge crowd.

Cherane Fyfield, whose dancehall name is ‘Madness’, was named the first ever Saddle Fiesta Dancehall Queen.  She amassed 1,263 points last night (Sept. 11) on the grounds of Saddlers Primary School.

In second place was ‘Bubblicious’ with 1,011 points while ‘Mystery Lady’ came in third with 875 points.

‘Macka Diamond’ and ‘Spicy-K’ were the other two contestants.
At the start of the competition, there was certainly no doubt that ‘Madness’ would dominate the show.

‘Madness’ performed all the right moves the whole night.  The excited audience kept chanting her name as she gyrated, trembled and vibrated almost every one of her body parts.

The other ladies also did a wonderful job in keeping the crowd entertained, but ‘Madness’ totally outshone them.  She kept calm and focused throughout the evening.

By the end of the night, the crowd seemed to have agreed with the judges’ decision.

In the first segment dubbed ‘Freestyle’, each contestant chose a dancehall mix.  ‘Freestyle’ was followed by the ‘Soca Wine’ segment, where the girls selected a soca mix that consisted of songs from local bands.

In the third segment dubbed ‘Dancehall Instructions’, the DJ played songs whose lyrics included dance instructions for the contestants.

For ‘Dancehall Instructions’, ‘Macka Diamond’ scored zero because she apparently chose not to appear in that segment.

At the end of the show, the contestants received participation trophies compliments of Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas.

The third place winner received a gift basket and EC$150 while the second place winner received a gift basket and EC$250.

The Dancehall Queen received a gift certificate for a phone compliments LIME and EC$500.

Diana Collins, Chairperson for Saddle Fiesta, thanked the contestants for taking part.  She also thanked the sponsors, judges and audience for their tremendous support.
