BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING a shooting incident on Wednesday (Sept. 9) that nearly claimed the lives of two Verchilds residents, a young male has been formally charged and remanded to prison.

A press release from the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force indicates that 25-year-old Dion Henry was charged for arson and two counts of attempted murder. The Middle Island resident appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (Sept. 10), and was subsequently remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

The charges stemmed from an early morning shooting on Wednesday at the Verchilds home of Gregory Flemming.
After responding to the report, police officers discovered that both Flemming and his girlfriend, Karen Nichols, were inside when an individual set fire to the house.

Flemming was able to extinguish the fire, which was lit on the inside of the home through an open window. He then ran outside and was shot in the hand and abdomen by the assailant.

Although Nichols remained inside the house, she too was shot in the arm during the attack.

The couple was hospitalised after the incident and, according to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry, are said to now be in stable condition.
