BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 13TH 2009 (CUOPM) – A recent Cuban graduate wants to see more students from the Federation to pursue their tertiary level education in the Republic of Cuba.
Dr. Ron Carty of Saddlers, who has just graduated as a dentist is also calling on students who will travel to Cuba soon to stay focus.
Recalling the words of the great Cuban revolutionary Jose Martin that ‘when you are educated, it is the best way to be free,’ Dr. Ron Carty said that returning with a profession is an achievement.
“You have heard all things about Cuba, but you will have to go and see for yourself and you will see that many of the things that you have heard are not there. Many of us have been there have been there and we will be there with you (in spirit),” said Dr. Carty, who graduated as a dentist.
“There will be roads and barriers that you will have to overcome, but in the end, you will make it. Stay focus. Eat what you get and appreciate it. You will learn a new language and a different culture. You will enjoy it and you will love to talk to your family about it. You will be a professional when you return,” said Dr. Carty in brief remarks to the new students who will soon travel to Cuba to pursue studies.
Dr. Carty is one of four students who graduated this year from Cuban universites and was speaking at a recent ceremony orgainsed by the Cuban Alumni Association of St. Kitts and Nevis.
