BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ETANA, born Shauna McKenzie and known for her hard hitting pulsating lyrics, is giving fans another of her songs to add to their collection as she is this week releasing a single titled ‘August Town’.

The song gets its name from a community in Jamaica and, according to the singer in a recent interview, everything about it is real.

“August Town is a song about an incident that occurred in the community recently where a dance was going on and people from the community came out to eat some food and enjoy themselves, and then the police came onto the scene and for no apparent reason just started firing shots which mash up everything. And even though this happened in the community where I grew up, similar circumstances can be heard happening in other communities across Jamaica.”

The song is described as a chilling tale of the excessive and sometimes unnecessary use of force by Jamaican police.

Etana, the Strong One, as she calls herself, is known for other songs such as ‘I am not afraid’, ‘Wrong Address’, ‘Roots’ and ‘Blessings’ featuring fellow Jamaican Alborosie.

She was recently featured in St. Kitts at the Miss Labour Queen Show and also at another performance held at Warner Park.
