Consultant looks at labour laws and public service standing orders

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 17TH 2009 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis has taken measures to transform the public service and labour laws.
     
    Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Dr. the Hon. Dennis Merchant said the services of a consultant, Ms Karen Stephen-Dalton.
     
    She is assisting in the drafting a new Public Service Bill including the Public Service Standing Orders.
     
    The new Bill seeks to provide for a new structure, organisation and management of the Public Service and is intended to modernize the Public Service and make it more responsive to the services it renders and to be more accountable to the public.
     
    Ms. Stephen-Dalton has also been contracted to draft a new Labour Code for the Federation.
     
    Dr. Merchant said that the Code is intended to consolidate all the laws relating to employment in the Federation and to bring such laws in line with the ILO Conventions.
