By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE public is being asked take on a ‘fit and fearless’ challenge this coming Saturday (Sep. 26) by putting their strength to the test in the Brimstone Hill Independence Anniversary Run.

The Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society has partnered with the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to stage this run in celebration of the Federation’s 26th anniversary of independence.

For parity, there will be six groups arranged by age, namely 12 years and under, 13-16 years, 17-35 years, 36-45 years, 46-55 years and 56-100.  Early registration remains open until Friday (Sep. 25) at 4:30 PM. But, for an additional fee of EC $5, late registrants would be able to enter into the fit and fearless challenge from 6:30-7:00 on the morning of the run.

Registrants 17 years and under are required to pay only EC $5, while older runners will pay EC $10. All participants will receive a certificate of participation and a free Brimstone Hill T-shirt.

The first male and female from each age group to complete the race will be awarded with a ‘fit and fearless’ trophy and an EC$ 200 cash prize. Participants placing second to fifth will also receive sizable monetary awards.

According to Public Relations and Personnel Manager Ingle Rawlins, the run is fitting as it encourages the cultivation of fit and fearless people at a time of the nation’s independence celebrations.

“This run is to promote qualities that independent people should have. It is symbolic, as it represents an attitude of discipline and perseverance and should remind one of the saying made famous by US President Barack Obama, ‘Yes we can,’” Rawlins told SKNVibes.

Following the prize-giving ceremony, all participants will be invited to the Prince of Wales Bastion for the official opening of the Chinese Exhibition by H.E. Rong Chuan Wu, Ambassador of the Republic of China.

Special Chinese delicacies, drinks and other refreshments will be served.
