CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Nevis Island Administration recently announced the decision to rename a few landmarks after several outstanding citizens of the island. Weekend Vibes took to the streets to get Nevisians opinions on this move.
Alistair - I personally feel that is a good thing because it’s long overdue. I would also like to see the first Premier of Nevis being honoured in such form or greater. It’s also about time we honour people who have done significantly well before they pass away.
Mr. Liburd - I think it’s a move in the right direction.
Gharlic – I think it’s long overdue. These people were to be honoured long, long time. I am very disappointed that these true icons, true pioneers, who have built this country for years with experience, have just been honoured. This present government should have foreseen these people on the agenda from the time they were elected. I am very proud as Uhral Swanston’s son to know that I will be part of history. I can’t wait for the official ceremony. In closing, I must say that I was very proud, moved and emotionally touched when this announcement was made. May God continue to bless my dad tremendously. Congratulations dad!
Sameka – I think it’s a brilliant decision to honour these people in such manner. I think this is just a way to show appreciation and respect where it is due.
Carmen – It’s a good idea especially the one at St. Thomas’ Pre-School. That lady, Inez, taught me and she taught my kids. That renaming was to be done in CCM time. It was to be changed, but thank God for Hon. Joseph Parry. May God continue to bless him. Who God bless let no man curse.
Eulalie – It is a very good decision, the stalwarts deserve it. It is the best thing that ever happened.
