Press Release
The Reform Project being undertaken by the St Christopher & Nevis Social Security Board takes another step forward when a three-person delegation participates in a Technical Seminar on Pensions to be held in Paris, France on October 1st & 2nd  2009.

Under the theme which retirement systems and which reforms for which pension, the seminar will explore what lessons have been learnt from systematic reform in countries with funded systems; how to maintain pension levels in pay-as-you-go systems and what are the prospects for the standard of living for retirees after reform by indexing of pensions. According to ISSA – the International Social Security Association, the purpose of these deliberations is to “analyse the strengths of pension systems, review criticisms and commonly accepted weaknesses in order to address the first and correct the latter”.

For this seminar, ISSA has joined forces with the National Old-Age Insurance Fund, the Central Fund of Social Agricultural Mutual Benefit Societies, The Insurance Scheme for the Self-employed and the Social Security Directorate, all of France; and forms part of the programme of activities adopted at the World Social Security Forum held in Moscow in 2007.

The Reform Project of the St Kitts & Nevis Social Security Board has already gathered input from the general public on the re-shaping of the Fund and is awaiting the input from the Actuary before a final decision is made.

St Kitts and Nevis will be represented at this forum by Board members Ms Eslyn Swanston and Ms Sandra Daveron, and by Mr. Elvin Bailey who has served as Chairman of the Reform Committee.
