BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE results are in from the Kantours’ Cruise Essay Competition and seven entrants have been announced as winners for the September cruise promotion.

The essay competition focused on the topic ‘Why is a cruise the best vacation option?’, and was designed to promote the cruise packages that Kantours offers. According to the organizers, it was ideal for the company’s promotion, as it allowed participants to do in-depth research on cruise tourism while at the same time developing their communication skills.

In the age group 12-16 years, 12-year-old Cheyenne Quinlan of Convent High impressed the judges with her composition and won an enviable Caribbean cruise, set for 2010.

Closely behind, Liandra Edwards, 16, made the CF Bryant College proud when she won a return ticket to Barbados with one night accommodation after placing second in her category. Washington Archibald High student Glenisha Earle, 15, came in third place and she will be treated to a tour and lunch aboard a cruise ship, compliments of Kantours.

The 17 and up category saw more entries and the standard of the essays was very high. Nigel Browne emerged the first place winner and secured a 2010 Caribbean cruise, Garcia Thompson of Nevis walked away with the return ticket to Barbados with one night accommodation and Patonia Williams won the third place prize of a tour and lunch on a cruise ship.

While there were a limited number of winners, the judges were of the opinion that Althea Adams deserved honorary mention for her compelling essay.

Kantours Manager Jasemin Warner-Weekes told SKNVibes that the competition was a success and she commended all participants for the high standard of composition.

“The response was overwhelming and the standard of the essays was equally high. The judges had a very hard time determining the winners in each category. We are pleased because the competition achieved its purpose of sensitizing the public as it relates to the affordability and convenience of a cruise,” Warner-Weekes noted.

Kantours also had a promotion in which individuals who purchased an airline ticket during the period of May-September were eligible to win a free cruise. Following yesterday’s (Oct. 2) draw, Donnelle Hodge of Sandy Point was announced the lucky winner of the valuable prize.

Warner-Weekes informed that the official prize-giving ceremony will be held at the end of October.
