Accomplished Young Leader Is Rotary Club Of Liamuiga’s Ryla Nominee

Press Release
Basseterre, St.Kitts, October 1, 2009: The Rotary Club of Liamuiga will be represented at the 2009 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Conference in Barbados from October 22-24, 2009.

Representing the Club, will be Ms. Gizelle Williams. A resident of Phillips Village on St.Kitts, Gizelle is a second year student at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC). In her second year she is studying Economics, Management of Business, Accounting, Caribbean Studies and Communication. Gizelle is also involved in her community as a young leader in the Girls Brigade and is the first female Drum Major in the St.Kitts-Nevis Defence Force Band.

President of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, Laverne Caines, commented: “Our nomination of Ms Williams this year was all the more justified when we learnt of her achievement as the first female Drum Major during our recently-celebrated Independence anniversary. We are confident that she will put this training to good use as she continues to make a difference not only in her community but the island on a whole.  At the end of the 3-day training we expect that Giselle will be well on her way to becoming a young leader who will be emulated by her peers and adults alike,” she concluded.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is an intensive training programme for talented youth and is organized by Rotarians at the local club or district level. The programme enables young people to debate issues of professional responsibility and human relations, improve leadership and communication skills, learn about businesses and institutions and meet Rotarians and make new friends.

The RYLA 2009 Conference will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Barbados at the Casa Grande Airport Hotel and Resort, Oldbury, St.Philip, Barbados under the distinguished patronage of Dr. The Hon. Ester Byer-Suckoo, Minister of Youth, Family & Sports.
