B.V.I. Friday, October 2 – Only seven months into construction, the Purcell Estate Community Centre is 70% completed and is expected to finish before the end of the year.
Natural Resources Minister Hon. Omar W. Hodge is pleased with the progress thus far and looks forward to the completion of the centre.
“Government looks forward to the day when the centre opens its doors to the Purcell community, the residents of Sixth District and the entire Virgin Islands. I am thoroughly pleased to see the progress made towards the development of this building,” Hon. Hodge said.
The construction of the shell of the building has been completed and in the next two weeks the installation of windows, doors and roofing will be finished. Simultaneously, the exterior works beginning at the rear of the building will be carried out.
Managing Director of W&W Project Management, Mr. Allen Wheatley whose responsibilities included the coordination of activities between the contractor in conjunction with the architect and the procurement of supplies stated that the project will be finished ahead of its scheduled 12 month time frame.
Government broke ground and signed a $1.4 M contract with Mr. Greg-Hodge of G-Unit Construction on February 13, 2009 for the construction of a community centre to fit the needs of the residents of the district. Once completed the Purcell Estate Community Centre will be the eleventh community centre in the Territory and the first community centre in the Sixth District.
