BVI Press Release
B.V.I. Tuesday, October 6 – The Elmore Stoutt High School students are now enjoying cooler classrooms thanks to two local entrepreneurs who donated 32 fans to the school last week.

Minister of Education and Culture Honourable Andrew Fahie thanked Mr. Kelvin Thomas of Cool Air Condition and Refrigeration and Mr. Ashley Warner of Island Development Construction for giving back to their alma mater. “We thank two of our own home-grown companies who have heard the cry of the Elmore Stoutt High School students and have donated some fans to the school,” he said.

“This donation will help to make the environment of our students to be more conducive to learning,” Honourable Fahie added.

The Education Minister congratulated and commended Messrs Warner and Thomas on behalf of the Government of the Virgin Islands for answering the call. “Since the inception of the Adopt-A-School Programme more businesses have come forward and have made donations to the schools in many ways including financially,” the minister said, adding, “but a lot more in the business community can do more in giving back to our young people.”

Acting Principal of the Elmore Stoutt High School Ms. Melissa Amey thanked the two gentlemen for having the initiative and coming forward “knowing that there was a need at the school.”  She said, “I will like to encourage other companies to become involved, these students are not only the product of the school but also of our country and everyone needs to do their part.”

Messrs. Warner and Thomas said their being products of the then BVI High School and being in the position to give back was gratifying.  “We are pleased that we are able to assist our young people here at the school,” Mr. Thomas said.  They also thanked Native Son for their assistance in transporting the fans.

The Ministry of Education and Culture and Department of Education are urging members of the business community to become more involved and to support the schools around the Territory through the Adopt-A-School Programme or in any other way.
