St. Peter’s water supply to be restored today

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER issuing an apology to residents of St. Peter’s, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure has announced that works on the White Hill Reservoir are expected to be completed by today (MY 26).

Residents were subjected to no water or low water pressure, and many of them were caught off-guard by the depleted supply.

During a walk-through of the St. Peter’s area, Chairman of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, Dr. Terrance Drew reportedly highlighted some of the challenges residents in various sections of the area were experiencing due to the limited water supply.

He called on the area’s Parliamentary Representative, Eugene Hamilton, to have the matter addressed expeditiously.

However, the problem may be a widespread one, as the Federation and other territories across the region are experiencing drought-like conditions.

A statement from the Water Department explained that the Federation only received six inches of rainfall for the year so far, while on average it is normally 12-15 inches for the same period.

The Nevis Water Department has also announced that it is implementing a period of rationing due to the current conditions.

According to a statement published by the St. Kitts-Nevis Information Service, the Ministry said that the private and public contractors are hard at work at the White House Reservoir.
