    B.V.I. Monday, October 12 – Boundaries Commissioner Ms. Monica Joseph arrived in the Territory today to begin phase one of the Constituency Boundaries Commission.
     
    Phase one of the Boundaries Commission is expected to last one month and involves holding public consultations on the increase in the number of electoral districts.
     
    Premier Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE announced during the 10th sitting of the second session of the First House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands on September 8, the policy of the Government to bring about an increase in the number of elected members in the House of Assembly from 13 to 15 and that the additional two members should come from an increase in the number of electoral districts from nine to eleven.
     
    His Excellency the Governor David Pearey in an address to the Territory on September 25, encouraged residents  to “make their views known by engaging with Commissioner Joseph at one of her many public meetings or in some other way during the four weeks she will be with us.”
     
    The public meetings begin on Wednesday, October 14 in District Two at the Enis Adams Primary School and on Thursday, October 15 in District Four at the House of Assembly beginning at 7:00 p.m.  The meeting on Anegada, District Nine, will be held on Friday, October 16 at the Emile Dunlop Community Centre at a time to be announced. 
     
    A full schedule of the meetings can be found in any of the Territory’s newspapers; online at www.bviplatinum.com and www.bvinews.com.  The schedule is also posted at various supermarkets in the Territory and can be heard on ZBVI, ZVCR and ZKING radio stations. 
     
    The appointment of the commission demonstrates Government’s commitment to building the Territory’s democratic institutions and processes.
