Two women sexually assaulted in St. Kitts

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO women on St. Kitts were sexually assaulted early this morning (Oct. 17) and Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas have called for a thorough investigation.

Speaking with Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Liburd this evening, SKNVibes learned that one of the victims resides in Sandy Point and the other in Basseterre.

“The police are presently investigating reports of sexual assaults that occurred during the early hours of today, Saturday, October 17, 2009. One of these incidents occurred in the Sandy Point area and the other in the Basseterre area. We do not believe that these incidents are connected,” Liburd said.

The ACP declared that both incidents are sensitive in nature and would be thoroughly investigated. He also indicated that the Prime Minister, who also holds the portfolio of Minister of National Security, was informed of the incidents.

“The Prime Minister has indicated that we should do all in our powers to bring the offenders to justice. He has also indicated that the government would do whatever it could to have these matters investigated to the fullest,” ACP Liburd added.

SKNVibes will provide updates as more information is made available.
