CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – AWARD-winning teacher-cum-farmer Anthony Jones has lent his support to the campaign by Pink Lily Breast Cancer Care Nevis to raise $50 000 to screen 200 women for the disease.

Jones, a poultry farmer, last Saturday (Oct. 17) donated some cakes to the organisation for sale in their fund-raising drive. The sale took place at Jones’ open air store at Victoria Road and was run by Pink Lily’s team of volunteers.

“We have to support our ladies,” said Jones, who noted that Pink Lily was dealing with a health issue as well as an educational issue.

“When there is a need, it is important that we support the organisation that expresses that need; for by doing so we encourage others to follow us.”

“The whole idea is sensitising people about the problems they are likely to face and how they can prevent suffering. Pink Lily has educated not only women but the whole population.”

Jones said he had coordinated several Nevisian bakers to donate the bakes and cakes. Kevin Chapman of Bath Village donated the cake while Ilish Walters gave the plate tarts and an unidentified lady donated the other delicacies.

The farmer explained that Nevisians look out for others. “We have a community way of life built within us.”

Jones’ supplies local chicken to the Nevis market and hopes to extend his business to encompass St. Kitts in the near future.

Meanwhile, FirstCaribbean Bank has also joined the campaign to raise the $50 000. The bank recently handed over a cheque to Leah Parris-Cambridge after the Pink Lily founder and leader made a presentation to the employees during which she shared her personal experiences as a cancer survivor.
