Blanchette criticizes Douglas leadership

Glenroy Blanchette

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 23rd 2009 (PAM Secretariat) - The People’s Action Movement’s (PAM) candidate for Constituency 1, Glenroy Blanchette, said that the current Labour administration under the leadership of the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas is the most corrupt in the Federation’s history.

Blanchette said that utterances made by the Prime Minister (PM) and also a number of questionable actions perpetrated by his administration deserve the description of being the most corrupt.

“We have to note that not only is the Labour government corrupt, but it has remained shamelessly unaccountable to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis despite the many pleas and requests,” Blanchette said. Blanchette stated that despite several promises, the PM continues to run the Federation as if he has no regard for the people who elected him to govern their affairs.

He added that his attempts to manipulate the boundaries committee so as to fix his interest only serves to further hurt the people of the Federation.

“This is a total disgrace, given the fact that the Prime Minister has been elected to serve the people and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis but, rather, he is selfish and his actions tell a true story. I guess that is why the posters are indicating that the system is working for the Prime Minister and his government but certainly no one else,” he said.

The PAM candidate noted that to compound this unsatisfactory situation, a number of employees, businessmen and businesswomen, among others, continue to complain about being victimized and discriminated because of their political and social affiliation.

Blanchette questioned the recent deportation of two Guyanese and German national while noting that it was the PM who initially declared that there would be no deportation, but rather regularization of those living in the Federation illegally.

He said the examples of unaccountability illustrate that the Douglas-led administration is a Government that does not account and is not prepared to answer to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, who have and continue to pay taxes for the development of their country.

“We are faced with a very grave situation in which the Honorable Prime Minister believes that he and his administration have a license to spend taxpayers’ money however they see it fit, without giving an account or explanation to the people.

Therefore, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis will certainly have to seek at rescuing their country from him if stability, accountability, morality, decency and growth are to return to the Federation,” he declared.

He stressed that it is this cavalier attitude to the Federation’s money that makes it possible for this corrupt Labour administration to continue refusing to make full and detailed disclosure of the several properties that the Prime Minister owns.

Blanchette also called for the ministers of Government to stand up and demand answers as to why the PM continues to run the Federation’s affairs the way he does.
