CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Albertha Payne Community Centre in Bath Village is the venue for the first of several monthly rallies hosted by HOPE Nevis with the aim of bringing stake holders together to preach the message of unity.

According to a release from HOPE Nevis, today’s rally (Oct. 26), which starts at 6.30 p.m., is targeting the church, community leaders, schools and political parties among others to share under the theme “Forget Bloods, Crips & Crime; Its Unison Time”.

The rally will feature representatives of political parties, calypsonians, musicians, parents of children affected by crime, pastors and a HOPE Nevis message for the youths to “promote unity while distancing themselves from the ills of crime”.

The release said HOPE Nevis has decided to go into each community to further expound on the importance of discipline, forgiveness, love and respect as opposed to guns, gangs and marijuana.

“This will be the first in a series of monthly rallies where we will be going into each parish to propagate the message of Unity. These rallies are part of an approach by HOPE Nevis to address the rising crime situation.”

In March this year, HOPE Nevis launched its art and slogan competition in the primary and secondary schools respectively. HOPE Nevis also had two Anti-Crime Kids Carnivals in April and July of 2009 where the whole anti-crime message was mixed with fun.

The organisation will also shortly be going into the schools with wristbands bearing the slogan and posters with the slogan and winning art piece. A banner will also be hung in Charlestown bearing the art and slogan competition winning piece.

According to the release, this is all part of the effort of HOPE Nevis to attack the issue of crime on all fronts by promoting unity among youths in the schools as well as in the community.
