CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – NEVIS has joined the rest of the world in celebrating October as International School Library month.
As part of the observances, the Charlestown Primary School Library has planned a number of activities including a Book Banquet which took place at the school’s library on Friday, October 23. Participants, 10 in total, were selected from Grades Four, Five and Six and were expected to read a selected story from a particular book. They were then expected to read a section of that book aloud in front of the judges chosen for that segment.
They were also asked to complete a book report and have a general group discussion.
At the completion of the exercise, a winner was declared from each group. From Grade Four that honour went to Randy Gandio, Grade Five to Kieria Andrew and it was shared in Grade Six between Zhariah Archibald and Marcus Morton.
Each participant was awarded a prize and there were special gifts for the winners.
Other activities for the month include Tag Day, which was held on October 14; Parents Read Day from October 19 to 22; and a Drop Everything and Read Day on October 28.
