BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TEAM St. Kitts and Nevis were eliminated from the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup after being hammered 6-nil by the United States of America last evening (June 28) at City Park in St. Louis, Missouri.
Seemingly, the Sugar Boyz were no match for the fleet-footed Americans who had them under pressure from the first whistle blast.
Jesus Ferreira scored a hat trick and gained valuable support from Djordje Mihailovic as the defending champions placed one foot into the Quarter Finals.
Mihailovic opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he slotted home a thunderous strike after receiving a pass from Gianluca Busio.
Bryan Reynolds double the lead two minutes later when his powerful low shot off a corner whipped into the box and ricocheted off the post.
In adding pains to team St. Kitts and Nevis, and joy to the near capacity City Park partisan fans, the Americans netted a third off the boot of Jesus Ferreira in the 16th minute.
The carnage continued when Ferreira doubled his tally nine minutes late after creating one-on-one play with Julani Archibald.
It was 4-nil at the half time break, and upon resumption any hopes of making inroads into the US lead was dashed when Ferreira placed a shot beyond the reach of Archibald in the 50th minute.
The proverbial salt was rubbed into the wounds of the Sugar Boyz when Mihailovic put paid in the 80th minute.
With that victory, the United States have leapfrogged Jamaica to jump to the top of Group A.
The Sugar Boyz will now head to California to play against Jamaica to close out their historic Gold Cup run.
