Jamaica’s Reggae Girls qualify for Round of 16

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - JAMAICA’S women national football team continues to show grit and determination, as they made history by qualifying for the second round of the ongoing FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

In a pressure game against powerhouse Brazil last evening (Aug. 2) in Australia, Jamaica’s defence stood tall in their push to qualify, and when the dust settled neither team could have broken the deadlock as the score ended 0-0.

The Reggae Girls are one of only two teams thus far to have not conceded any goal in the competition. They have qualified for the round of 16 after shutting out Panama, France and Brazil.

This is the first time in 28 years that Brazil have failed to qualify in the group stages of the World Cup.

Despite pressure from the South Americans, who entered the game needing a win, it was the solid defense of the Jamaicans that stood tall to qualify.

They have now finished second in Group F, where France came out victorious after hammering Panama 6-3 in the other game.
