Googly & CPL Launch ECPL with US$25,000 Prize Pool

By: Republic Bank CPL, Press Release

Googly & CPL are delighted to announce that they have signed an agreement to launch the ‘ECPL’

Gros Islet, Saint Lucia, 4 August 2023 -- The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is one of the most supported sporting leagues in the world, with the annual T20 cricket competition attracting a total viewership reach of more than 720 million. During this year’s tournament, which kicks off on August 16th, CPL fans can represent their favourite team and compete in the ECPL on Googly, India’s newest and most exciting esports and gaming destination.

With a prize pool of US$25,000, the ECPL will run for 7 weeks and consist of three stages. Each CPL team - Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders - will host single elimination bracket Open Qualifiers on the Googly tournament platform to find their mobile esports representative.

These six players will move on to the Double Round Robin tournament, playing for their CPL team every Wednesday for five weeks on a live broadcast esports show, to collect leaderboard points. At the end of the round robin, the Top 4 players will head to the ECPL Playoffs on 20th September, also broadcast live, to find the world’s best WCC3 player and crown the official ECPL champion.

Registrations for each CPL team’s Open Qualifiers are open and can be accessed via this link: https://cpl.googly.gg/?utm_source=prelease&utm_campaign=CPL

Supporting partners of the inaugural ECPL on Googly include Next Wave - publishers of WCC3 (World Cricket Championship 3), the official game of the ECPL, with 80 million downloads worldwide.

Pete Russell, CPL’s CEO said: “The Republic Bank CPL has always prided itself on being at the forefront of innovation and this new ECPL is just another example of the league pushing towards the future and giving our wonderful fans another chance to be fully integrated into the Biggest Party in Sport.”

Matt Lodge, Googly’s CEO said how excited his entire team were to be partnering with such a phenomenal competition and brand that already has such a vast and loyal following in cricket and gaming-mad India.
