CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - AS the curtains came down on Culturama 2023, Minister of Culture in the Nevis Island Administration, Eric Evelyn said he was pleased with the staging of the 49th Edition of the festival.
The summer festival saw local and regional participation, and was described as being one of the best and a “huge success”.
“I am very pleased with the way Culturama 49 unfolded here on the island of Nevis,” Evelyn told Freedom FM.
This year’s major events saw Nykeisha Henry winning the Miss Culture Queen Pageant, Andrew ‘King Hollywood’ Nisbett took home the Senior Kaiso Monarch Title, Delly Ranks won the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Ltd. Groovy Soca Title, while Daddy Tustee carted off the Power Crown.
Kore Band won the Road March Title, Four Season’s Resort Mas Camp was the victor of the Best Fantasy Troupe, while David’s Dynasty claimed the Folklore Troupe category; and Mango Fantasy took the Best Float Title.
“I would say that Culturama 49 was a huge success. And I am very delighted that everything came through, and came through very well,” Minister Evelyn added.
He however lamented that the only disappointment was the mishap when a tractor and trailer carrying equipment and instruments for the Nu Vybes Band crashed in the Long Point area, which resulted in five persons being injured.
“I am really sorry that that took place. But, apart from that, the security forces did an excellent job,” Evelyn said.
Meanwhile, in commending the Chairman and his team for organizing the festival, Evelyn said, “I am happy with the overall management, execution and organization of the whole event.”
Planning for 50th Edition has already begun and Evelyn indicated that he is looking forward to its staging.
