Small Axe takes Road March Title

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER the dust had settled following the fun and frolic of J’Ouvert, results of the Road March saw the Small Axe Band carting off the Road March Title.

     

    In announcing the results, the National Carnival Committee (NCC) described this year’s Road March Competition as a “resounding success, featuring captivating rhythms that reverberated through the streets of Basseterre”.

     

    According to the Committee, the Small Axe Band captured the title with a their hit song ‘Showcase’, earning 816 points and a prize of $20,000. 

     

    Small Axe’s arch rival Grand Masters tallied 751 points with ‘Happy’ and earned themselves the second prize of $15,000, while Nu Vybes with ‘Ken and Barbie’ accumulating 740 points and a prize of $10,000. 

     

    During a radio announcement, Carnival Chair Shannon Hawley disclosed that 11 J’Ouvert troupes had registered to participate.

     

    In the Large category, Red Devils took the top spot with 229 points, and walked away with $20,000. Chattabox claimed the second spot with 223 points, thus earning themselves $15,000, while Xtreme was adjudged third with 191 points and receiving a prize of $10,000.

     

    In the Small category, Small Axe Band Warriors came out the winner with 301 points and a prize of $6,000. The second spot went to Fantasy with 270 and a $4,000 prize, while GM Addix  was third with 259 points.

     

    Activities for Carnival continued yesterday (Dec. 27) with the Panaroma Pompetition at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.
